A Place of Global Connections

The thing about college is, it’s not all about college. There is just so much more going on, especially if you are in a place like Portland State. You can explore college life and go to a wide range of events put together by students, if you are not too busy with school, of course. But more importantly you get to meet people that you never thought you would, people from all corners of the world, and that, I think, is what makes college an enriched experience.

For most Global Connectionsof my life, I have been more of an introvert. Nothing wrong with introverts, of course, but I have had a hard time connecting with people until I started going to college. After taking some classes, I somehow grew out of that introversion; I just had to, without even noticing it. Slowly I began making more connections and making new friends, and I do not mean just Facebook friends. Life in college opened up new doors for me, doors that I had never really knocked on or meant to open.

I had lots of connections before coming to PSU, but once I started attending PSU, my connections became more global, and that, I think, is very important in this day and age, especially for some of us who do not get to travel the world as much as we want. Today, we might make a connection and a friend, but tomorrow that connection could lead to a new career—you never know—it could be a career and a future that you only dreamt of! So make connections while you are at PSU.

Interesting article Flamur. Even though I am much older than you and have come to PSU for different reasons I can identify with you. I too like my time at PSU for the contacts I make. I live in a fairly conservative area and commute into Portland and PSU. As an older returning student I find I really enjoy the “younger” more progressive opinions I encounter and realize at any age–we are all just students.

Good post- it made me think.

Well, thank you for the kind comments Mike. I know what you mean, I too enjoy my time being around other students, no matter what their age is; I guess everyone has something to offer to the world,

      Thanks again.

Not only as a student, you can make global connection. A company which progresses fast will have more to gain if it creates international connections and start selling its merchandise or services worldwide. But, for this to happen, it should reorganize a little bit the internal management, for example, hiring bilingual employees is a good idea and using an online scheduling tool to organize everything in a matter of seconds is also a good idea.

You have many opportunities as a student! You can discover the world at low cost, you can invest in a hobby, like collecting rare stamps, you can start a business and the Government will help you. You should take advantage of any opportunity that you will encounter because in this way you will gain life experience and maybe you will discover your career path at this young age.
